The United States Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard was established in 1967 at Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Barstow, California. It remains the only mounted unit in the Marine Corps and represents the Corps at parades, rodeos, and ceremonies across the nation.
Mounted Marines proudly carry the National Ensign, and Marine Corps Battle Colors, showcasing the Corps’ values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment while preserving the Marine Corps’ equestrian heritage.
This unique unit serves as an ambassador of goodwill, discipline, and tradition, a living connection between America’s past and present Marines.
The Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard Association (MCGA) was founded to support and promote the Mounted Color Guard based in Barstow, California.
Our Association provides financial, logistical, and community support to help preserve this proud Marine Corps tradition. We also engage the community through events, education, and outreach that highlight the values and service of our mounted Marines.
The Association was established by veterans, community leaders, and supporters who recognized the importance of maintaining the Mounted Color Guard’s presence and heritage.
Their vision was to create a nonprofit organization that connects the local community, Marine Corps veterans, and supporters in sustaining this proud tradition through fundraising, education, and civic engagement.
The purpose of the Association is to:
Promote and preserve the history and legacy of the Mounted Color Guard.
Support the unit through fundraising and public awareness.
Develop community partnerships and host events that strengthen ties between the Marine Corps and local residents.
Foster patriotism and respect for service through education and participation.
The MCGA works in partnership with:
Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow
California Historic Route 66 Association
Route 66 Musical Roads LLC
Barstow Chamber of Commerce
Local civic and veteran organizations
These collaborations allow us to build strong community connections while celebrating the Marine Corps’ proud traditions through public events and service projects.
